The title of the Hero of the Czechoslovakian (Socialist) Republic was established by the goverment`s decision No. 6/1955 Sb., dated with 8. February 1955, regarding the awarding of the honorable title "Hero of the Czechoslovakian Socialist Republic" and establishing Order of the Red Banner, Order of the Red Star, Medals for Merits for Defense of the Country a Medal for Service for the Country.

The title Hero of CSR (later Hero of CSSR) was awarded to honor extraordinary merits for the republic connected with a hero achievment or repeated achievments. The title was awarded upon proposal of the goverment. The hero was awarded with Order of Klement Gottwald - for building of Socialist Homeland.

A Hero of CSSR wears the Gold Star of the Hero of CSSR. The Hero received a document about his honour, the gold star of the hero and the order`s booklet as a proof for wearing of the star.

The Gold star is a five-pointed star of 29 mm. The Star was made from gold, the surface was polished. In the middle of the star a smaller red enameled star was mounted. In the middel of the revers a medaillon with the state emblem is placed. The star is worn on a red, 38 mm wide and 30 mm long. The star is connected with the ribbon with a gold suspension. The suspension consist of the horizontal mace mounted on the ribbon and of two crossed sprigs under the mace and connected with the star by the circle suspension. The upper part of the ribbon is mounted into a gold clamp.

The Gold Star of the Hero of CSSR was worn on the left breast side above all the Czechoslovak Awards or their ribbons, always in natura and in front of the Gold Star of the Hero of the Socialist Labour.
